MACAULAY STREET KITCHEN
Photography by Nick Morrissey
We were approached by a fellow 'timber tragic' to design a kitchen that celebrates recycled timber, with a modern attitude, to speak with a contemporary extension to a traditonal workers cottage in Coorparoo, Brisbane.
The kitchen takes up a downstairs, ground level position in the addition, opening out to the backyard entertaining area and pool, so we wanted the kitchen to be welcoming and easy to engage with. A kitchen that is the heart of the home, and sometimes the hub of the party!
The kitchen wall is made from solid recycled Blackbutt, with benchtops and splashbacks made of honed black granite. The black panel at the rear of the island is a genius matte black laminate that resists finger prints and marks and is miraculously repairable if it gets scratched. If you are going to rock a bit of black matte this is the only material to do it in!
All timber materials are recycled or Chain of Custody Certified. The timber has been sealed with our favourite low emission natural oil/ wax emulsion.
We were glad to be able to help a kindred spirit bring the warmth and natural beauty of recycled timber into their new home.
